Environment: The environment at Escape Room 831 can vary depending on the specific room. One reviewer found the "Christmas Story" room to be rather small and bare, lacking the expected immersive decor. A structural limitation of the building, where walls do not go up to the ceiling, can lead to noise distractions from the lounge/arcade area, potentially affecting immersion and the ability to hear in-room audio. However, another reviewer praised a different room for being very immersive, particularly highlighting the inclusion of an actual bank vault.

Services: The primary service offered is participation in their themed escape room games. The staff is consistently highlighted as very kind, courteous, and professional, even going out of their way to assist late arrivals with directions. They are also commended for making certain room experiences more immersive. However, the level of enjoyment of the puzzles themselves can vary, with one reviewer finding the "Christmas Story" room's puzzles to be mostly based on decoding and combinations, lacking variety.

Features: A notable feature of Escape Room 831 is its exceptional staff, who are consistently praised for their friendliness and professionalism. Some rooms offer a high level of immersion, with unique elements like an actual bank vault. However, the level of visual appeal and immersion can differ between rooms, and building constraints might impact the overall experience due to noise from outside the room. The types of puzzles may also lean towards decoding and combinations, which might not appeal to all escape room enthusiasts looking for a wider variety of puzzle styles.

5 stars for the staff. I went to the Oscar's Playground location and ended up running a few minutes late because of traffic and trying to find parking at Cannery Row. I'm a local but I don't go to Cannery Row often and was having a hard time finding the place. The staff was very kind, helping me to find the place, and were courteous and professional the entire time. This was my first experience in an escape room. I thought it would be a fun activity to do with my two teen kids since we all like logic puzzles and an escape room sounded exciting. However, overall, it was an underwhelming experience. We did the Christmas Story room, as it was the only option that fit the limited time I had with my kids that day. The room was rather small and quite bare. In my mind, I thought it would be decked out and more homey (again, this was a first experience, so I have nothing to compare this against). There were enough puzzles to keep us occupied pretty much the whole time (and a couple of them were creative), but it was all kind of the same in that it was mostly decoding or trying different places to enter a combination. I had hoped there were be a variety of types of puzzles that would be more stimulating and varied as opposed to mostly numbers (I e. items that fit together, logic word puzzles, sequences that don't involve numbers necessarily, etc.). It might be that I'm just not the type of person that enjoys escape rooms and now I know that. However, I think a significant aspect of my lack of enjoyment of the experience is that it was not immersive (which is what I had been looking forward to the most). The walls do not go up to the ceiling (it seemed outside of their control because of the the type of ceiling in the building) and I could hear all the chatter from the lounge/arcade. We always had to get real close and strain to hear the anything played over the speaker. The ambient music couldn't mask all the chatter and arcade sounds and hearing all the activity outside was super distracting and irritating. To summarize, for me, I was really looking forward to doing an escape room, but was visually underwhelmed as soon as I walked in. The puzzles were not really interesting to me and the outside chatter made me feel distracted and annoyed. I was not into it by about minute 15 and dreaded having to be there for the remaining time (but tried to keep a positive attitude and make the best of it). For my teen son (high schooler), he didn't think it was fun, either. My daughter (the youngest - middle schooler), however, thought it was enjoyable. After this, I don't think I would return to an escape room. It's too much money for what I got out of it, which was only learning that I guess I don't like escape rooms. Great staff, though.

Thank you Candace for such an amazing experience!! She was awesome and made the experience 10x better. They made this room so immersive especially with having an actual bank vault.

There was an unfortunate amount of rain on our visit to Monterey last week, so we found these escape rooms to be an excellent indoor option. We had two adults and a high functioning, autistic 10 year old participating in Alice's Dream and later the Mystical Manner. Both rooms were intricate and fun, but the experience was highlighted by our game masters Karina and Kelly. They helped our daughter feel comfortable asking for hints and made this an amazing part of our vacation. Now that we're at home, our daughter can't stop talking about how much fun she had and didn't miss the boat rides that had to be cancelled. I recommend this company for families and adults. It's a fair price for a fabulous experience that will create wonderful memories.

I can only speak for the escape room that we did, Submergency, but it was great! Much fun was had by 4 people who were all fairly new to escape rooms, including two people who were brand-new. it’s a little confusing in that this company has several different locations in Monterey, so be sure to map where your escape room will be before you go or you might be late. They gave us the option of asking for clues when we needed them, or that they could just decide when we needed clues. We said we’d like to ask for clues when we needed them. We did have to ask for four clues, but we finished the room. They asked us not to share any pictures of the inside of the escape room, understandably, but they also offered to take a picture of us at the end which we took advantage of. I would happily go back and try some of their other rooms, it seems very well run and professional.

We did the Alice in wonderland room. It was a bit on the seriatim side, but better than many. We really enjoyed it and our game master was great.
